For years I’ve wanted to move my website onto WordPress. The technology felt daunting and included moving my emails to a new program. But on Friday while trying to add more buttons in the black menu bar at the top of my WordPress blog site, I accidentally published a BLANK BLOG POST. I quickly wrote something in that post which you can view here, but you can’t retrieve/fix what’s been sent by email to your BLOG FOLLOWERS (if you haven’t followed my blog, click the “Follow” button at the bottom of this post or in the sidebar on the right).
Time to steady my nerves with a flower picture I took a few days ago…
I thought it would just be a blank email. After all, that’s what I sent. But my free WordPress blog account adds WordPress Ads to my blog posts. Hey, they gotta make money somehow.
But the WordPress Ad they added to my blank blog post was a SIGH-WORTHY ONE. A friend showed it to me. It was a person holding a giant check/cheque. Hey, I wish I had a check/cheque like that (don’t we all) but nobody needs to see that.
So…I’m finally moving my website so it’s combined with my blog site.
Bear with me. It’s a work-in-progress with a large learning curve because I’m doing it myself. But at the end of the process, I can stop paying for my current website and start paying for a combined website/blog AND get rid of the WordPress Ads.
And I’ll only have one site to keep current. More time for writing…or taking pictures of flowers. Here’s another from last week…
What’s new so far on my work-in-progress WordPress site?
Below is a snippet from my brand new ABOUT ME page where I had fun turning an old Q&A (question/answer) into Grandpa Gus asking me the questions.
Sidenote: If you haven’t met Grandpa Gus Peregrine (the breakout star of my stories The Calling Birds and Robyn: a Christmas Bride), check out my also brand new Team I-Love-Grandpa-Gus page that I’ve added to this site.
GUS: What are some of yer favorite stories? Bet they have animals in them. Yer always including a horse or a mule or some reference to birds in yer stories.
ME (you savvy old-timer, you’re always right): A few of my favorite stories are…
- The Happy Prince and The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. Made me fall in love with storytelling and heroes of all sorts (like swallows, statues, and giants).
- The Earth’s Children series (with lots of horses, wolves, and big cats) by Jean M. Auel. Made me want to be a paleontologist and explore the world.
- The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. Makes me cry every time I read it and in doing so reminds me of the power of engaging a reader’s emotions.

What was your most memorable technology snafu?
Hope you’ll share in the comments below…
Hi Jacqui,
I commend you. Your new site will be awesome. Currently I pay for my blog to be ad free and I put up with the structure of my Go daddy website, which I really don’t like. Someday, I will follow your lead and set up one platform.
Sending you lots of positive vibes.
Jo-Ann
Thank for the positive vibes, Jo-Ann! Just got off the phone with GoDaddy (my current website provider) and they charged me $189 because they can’t give me a backup of my email account with them. They have to transfer my email account to their Outlook 365 plan (where a backup can be done). And that’s a paid yearly plan. Plus there is a transfer fee. And there is a queue for the transfer. The earliest the transfer will be done is in 4 days. I’ll be sooo happy when I’m free of GoDaddy.
