It’s my first morning in South Dakota. I love going places I’ve never been before. Finally, I’m going to see…
Mount Rushmore – carved from 1927 to 1941 in the hopes of promoting tourism in South Dakota. Hey, it worked! I’ve always wanted to go to South Dakota because of Mount Rushmore and also because of…
The Badlands. They’re beautiful. I’ve got my hiking shoes. I’m ready to see their badness and this bad boy too…
Okay, I’ve seen bison before. I did grow up in Alberta, after all. But it’s been a while and these beautiful creatures are always an inspiring sight.
Built when gold was discovered in 1875, Deadwood was named after the dead trees in the gulch where the miners and merchants formed a town where Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Seth Bullock, and many others found fame. Others like…
I’d be terrified if I saw evil Al Swearengen and starstruck if I saw fabulous Ian McShane. Neither would be good for my heart. I’ll be much better off seeing…
There are wild horses in the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, but I’ll be joining a tame trail ride just outside Deadwood and probably won’t be going at a gallop. It’s been years since I rode a horse, and I want to be in one piece for…
For the Wild Deadwood Reads event, I’ll be at the author/reader meet-and-greet on Thursday (June 7, 2018, 7-9 pm), the big book signing on Saturday (June 9th, 10 am – 2 pm). and the Wild Deadwood Tales book table at the PBR rodeo on Saturday evening. Saturday evening (when I’m not at the WDT book table) I’ll also be having fun at the Behind the Chutes rodeo add-on event,
And in-between all of the above I’ll be wandering around town seeing the sights (Mount Moriah Cemetery, Bullock Hotel, and more) and shopping for cowboy boots.
I’m keen to make a pair of bright-colored boots my South Dakota holiday keepsake. Blue, turquoise…maybe even red! Finding the perfect pair is going to be its own adventure. I’ve been told Deadwood’s Pink Door Boutique has a great selection.
If you’re in Deadwood June 7-9, 2018, I’d love to meet you. If you see me, I hope you’ll say “hello.” If I’m across the street when you see me, feel free to yell, “Hello, Jacqui! Have you found your cowboy boots?” 😀❤

Hi Jacqui,
What an adventure! I love your pictures and I can’t wait to hear more.
Happy travels,
Jo-Ann
Day 1 was incredible! Saw amazing landscapes and historic sites – and now drinking delicious local wine with my friend and fellow author, Elisabeth Burke. An all-around perfect day 🙂
Dead Wood sounds like an amazing place to visit both A’s reader or writer who loves westerns. I can’t wait to see what boots you bring back!
Fingers crossed I find the perfect pair – in color and fit!
