On Feb 7th, Following Faith (book 2 in my Lonesome Hearts series) finally released as a stand-alone read — and so today I thought I’d share its Pinterest board (something I always create to organize my visual inspiration when writing a story).
Below are some screenshots…just in case you’re not on Pinterest 🙂
FRONTIER SCHOOL TEACHERS
My heroine, Faith Featherby, is a logging camp schoolmistress who is wrongfully dismissed from her position and told she must leave the camp. What might her life have looked like before this happened?
OREGON MOUNTAIN LIFE
Faith’s story begins in the fictional logging camp of Timber Creek and then continues during a day on horseback between the camp and Faith’s next destination — a new home or at least the next place where she can earn a new living. What might the trail Faith must ride (and the 1850s logging camp she’s forced to leave) look like?
MEDICINE HAT HORSES
Faith’s journey on horseback is inspired by a sacred Medicine Hat horse that she nurses back to health and then decides she must return to its rightful owner. What’s a Medicine Hat horse? It’s a mostly white horse with a colored patch covering the ears and top of the head (that some say looks like a hat). Native Americans believed such a horse held the sacred power to protect its rider. Marguerite Henry wrote about a horse like this in her 1972 novel San Domingo, The Medicine Hat Stallion (which was one of my favorite childhood stories).
I hope you enjoyed this look into the visuals that helped inspire Faith and Eagle’s story! Click here to see all of the pictures (and sections) in Following Faith’s Pinterest board.
