Nearly 3 months ago I wrote my first “filling the creative well” blog and shared how I had decided to “go on an adventure once a week this summer” and then…writing and life got in the way of weekly adventures. I did manage to go to Victoria’s Butchart Gardens several times, but that wasn’t weekly – and I didn’t write any “filling the creative well” blog posts about gardens or any place else.ย
ย
But in July, I did take a day trip to the USA’s lavender fields (in Sequim, Washington State) and in August, I also took a trip to France’s lavender fields (in Sault, Aix-en-Provence).
ย
And now…I love lavender…a lot ๐๐ย
ย
And now I also have time to blog about these trips. Or at least (while racing toward releasing my next book on Sept 19), I have time to share my pictures and how I was saying to myself (at the Sequim lavender farms), this would be a great place to set up a book table…and then I met two authors who had done just that!
Sequim, Washington State, USA
ย
Sault, Aix-en-Provence, France
ย
It’s relaxing being in lavender field, intersting seeing how lavender oil is distilled in different countries, and fun bringing home not only lavender oil and lotion – but many lavender-infused treats like honey and tea. Plus I ate my fair share of delicous lavender ice cream in Washington State and Aix-en-Provence ๐
And what about those authors I met?
The ones I had the good luck to cross paths with at book tables at the lavender farms? Here are their pictures…
ย
At the B&B Family Farm:ย Gail Noble-Sanderson, author of The Lavender House in Meuse, and her sister, who creates the art for Gail’s book covers.
ย
ย
At the Olypmic Lavender Farm:ย Bonnie Louise Gillis, author of The Lavender of Sequim: America’s Provence.
ย
What lavender fields and farms have you visited? And do you have a favorite lavender plant, product, or book?
Hope you’ll comment below…because I’m already dreaming about lavender trips (and purchases) for next year ๐
What a great post! I could almost smell the lavender. One of my cousins lived in Sequim for a few years so I have been there, but not France. One of my favorite lavender things is a rectangylar bag filled with lavender that you can put over your eyes. Very calming. I’ve never tasted it though. That sounds interesting.
Thanks fir sharing.
All the best,
Jo-Ann
The lavender bag for eyes sounds very calming indeed, Jo-Ann. I’ll look for one when I visit Sequim’s Lavender Festival and farms again next year in July. I’m thinking it could become a yearly event for me ๐
I can almost smell the lavender, Jacqui. Thanks for the shout-out too. ๐ So…will your next heroine be named Lavender? Or perhaps live in a quaint town of lavender fields? Just sayin’. Lavender has a way of getting its hooks in deep!
Lavender would be a great name for a heroine, Bonnie! So many stories to write and so little time. And yes, lavender definitely put it’s hook deep into me this summer โค๏ธ๐
There used to be a lavender farm just up the road from me in N. Saanich. I found it a great stress reliever. Just to sit in a lounge chair and breath the air filled me with a sense of peace. Lavender tea and lavender shortbread didn’t hurt. ๐
