Pinterest inspires me. Every time I write a story, I create a secret Pinterest board to store my visual inspiration for that story. And after I release that story, I make my Pinterest board visible to the world.
So…now it’s time to share the Pinterest board for my newest release, A Bride for Heddwyn 🎉
Music: the Violin
My heroine, Oriole, is a singer/musician whose favorite instrument is the violin. But Oriole has given up the violin she’s had since she was a child in order to concentrate on finding her sister-of-the-heart, Wren—who became separated from Oriole (and their other sister, Lark) as they fled their cruel and controlling troupe manager. A separation that Oriole feels was her fault.
Wagons: for Oriole, Shepherds & the Roma
Many scenes in A Bride for Heddwyn take place on or near a wagon that Oriole got from Romani travelers. These wagons (sometimes called vardos or caravans) can be very elaborate with intricate carvings or (if used as temporary accommodations by shepherds) barebones plain. They are snug homes on wheels with tiny stoves, a bed or two, and lots of cabinets or cubbyholes for storing useful tools like (at least in my story) a pair of blacksmith’s pliers.
Travelers: the Roma, Romanichal, Gypsies
When Oriole meets the Roma while searching for her sister, she doesn’t trust them because…she trusts no one. But a chance to use one of their wagons to continue her search is a chance too good to pass up. For the Roma, meeting a Songbird is a chance as well—to mend one link to music and reclaim another.
Border Collies
Book 1 in my Songbird Junction series had a pair of cute lambs. I knew I wanted another scene-stealer cutie for book 2. And then…a half-grown border collie wandered onto the page—or rather sprinted! My love for border collies comes from living with them on the farm where I grew. They were always a bundle of energy.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of the pictures that helped inspire book 2 in my Songbird Junction series. To see all of the pictures in A Bride for Heddwyn’s Pinterest board, click here, or to find the book on Amazon, click here.
